Meet Gavin
Natural Health Specialist
Although he didn't know it at the time, Gavin's first brush with Osteopathy was at the tender age of five when he developed Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (destruction of the ball and socket joint of the hip). He came to understand pain and the debilitating effects of not being able to do what you want to do. This understanding helps him to motivate people to overcome physical trials that initially seem insurmountable.
Later on in life, when he studied to become an Osteopath, he focused much of his studies on the pelvis and leg length inequality. As a result, he is ideally suited to deal with back pain and pelvic girdle pain.
Over the years Gavin has learned Orthotics, Naturopathy and Craniosacral treatment. He is qualified to treat Frozen Shoulder, using the Niel Asher Technique. In later years, Gavin has dived head first into studying Functional Medicine as it provides a rational approach to combatting the ills we each face day living in the Modern World.

Osteopaths work to bring body mechanics back to normal to aid optimal functioning, mobility and good health. We use our hands and highly developed sense of touch to diagnose and treat problems within the framework of the body and its internal structures. Soft tissues, such as muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, are addressed as well as bones and joints, and the effects these have on viscera (organs) and body systems.
Individuals are precisely that… individuals. We consider the impacts of all aspects of your life on your health. This may include your current, or previous occupation, posture, activities and hobbies, previous injuries and traumas, and medical history. This ensures that treatment is tailored to you and not just treating your symptoms without addressing the root cause.
Your body already has everything within it to heal itself. Gavin just gives it a nudge in the right direction.
Gavin also practices CranioSacral Osteopathy (Cranial for short). This is a gentle yet profound treatment modality that works hand in hand with your central nervous system. By working on such a fundamental level, Gavin is able to enact change in areas of your health you wouldn't think possible.
This form of treatment is, in particular, suited to patients seeking a more gentle form of treatment. Young children and the Elderly also benefit greatly from this.

What to Expect When You See an Osteopath
Osteopathic treatment is non-invasive, drug-free and tailored to the individual. During the first visit your osteopath will ask you about your current problem, your lifestyle, and your medical history to better get an understanding of what is causing your problem.
We've found that patients are most comfortable remaining in their clothes during examination and treatment. A large portion of patients will be treated without having to dress down but in some instances it will be necessary for the osteopath to ask you to remove various articles of clothing to better see and treat your problem. In these instances, your modesty will be taken in to account and a towel will be readily available for you. On the chance that this happens, wearing sensible underclothing is advised.
During the examination, feel free to ask the osteopath at any point what he is doing. He will explain to you his findings and how they relate to your problems.
Before commencing treatment he will explain to you more fully what is wrong and what he recommends should be done about it so you can make an informed decision about your treatment.
You will be provided exercise and lifestyle advice with your treatment. YOU have the largest impact on your health and we hope that by helping you to improve your lifestyle, you won't need to come and visit us as frequently.
MOT
In some patients with a long history of back pain or chronic health problems, it may be for your best benefit to have a regular checkup just to make sure your health is going in the right direction. Checkups will enable the osteopath to determine if you have underlying problems before things turn serious. Just like you're supposed to visit the dentist every so often, your osteopath will let you know if you might benefit from occasional checkups.
Remember pain is the last symptom to show up and the first symptom to go.
